Then this ceremony is for you.
For centuries, people came together during the solstice to celebrate the longest days of the year. They lit fires, shared food, and honored the strength of the sun. It was a time to
celebrate life, connection, and the rhythms of nature.
In that same spirit, we gather and we drink cacao. Cacao is a gentle yet powerful plant
medicine that has been enjoyed for thousands of years. She brings warmth, connection, and presence. Like the bonfires our ancestors lit, cacao invites us to soften, to open, and ignite the fire within us.

In many traditions of Central and South America, cacao is seen as a sacred plant. She
carries a warm, grounding energy, often connected to the feminine and to the deep wisdom of the Earth.
Working with cacao is about meeting yourself honestly. She invites you to be present with
what is there - the light, the joy, and also the parts that feel tender or hidden.
Cacao helps you turn inward, to connect with yourself again. So that from there, you can
open outward again and connect with others.

During the ceremony, we move through a gentle, intentional process:
1. Opening the space with an altar for the four directions (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) and a
center dedicated to cacao.
2. Smudging with palo santo or mugwort to clear and ground our energy.
3. Opening the circle.
4. Grounding meditation to connect with body and breath.
5. Drinking the cacao, prepared with love and herbs like cinnamon, ginger,
ashwagandha, or cardamom.
6. Shamanic drum journey, guiding you into deep meditation and self-reflection.
7. Sharing and closing the circle.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗼 – 𝗜’𝘅
For the Maya, cacao is one of the most sacred plants, alongside maize. The spirit of cacao is known as I’x (pronounced isch). She embodies the feminine principle, the jaguar, and the fertile, untamed energy of the jungle. The jaguar’s mouth is seen as the gateway to the underworld, Xib’alb’a is the realm of death, rebirth, and deep transformation.
As we move from winter into spring, I’x invites us to walk courageously into our inner landscapes. She helps us meet both light and shadow. The old fears, patterns, and wounds that are ready to be composted, just like last year’s leaves feeding new growth. Through cacao, this inner work becomes softer, more compassionate, and even joyful.

In the sacred Maya K’iché text, the Popol Vuh, the Hero Twins Junajpu and I’xbalanqué were conceived when their father’s skull, hanging in a cacao tree, miraculously impregnated the maiden Ixkik’. The twins descended into the underworld Xibalbá, faced its trials, resurrected their father as the Maize God, and ultimately became the Sun and the Moon.
This myth mirrors the rhythm of the seasons: descent, transformation, and return. Cacao carries this ancient memory, reminding us that every ending contains the seed of a new beginning.
